Jumper Kruglik is a seamless design worked from the top down using a saddle-shoulder construction.
The project begins with a cast-on and Back neckline shaping using short rows. The Back, Front, and Saddles are worked as one piece: first in back-and-forth rows to the base of the neckline, then in the round. The Back, Front, and Sleeve Caps are shaped with increases. Once the required armhole depth is reached, the work is divided into Body and Sleeves.
The Body is worked top-down in the round from the Underarm to the bottom edge.
The Sleeves are then worked top-down in the round from the Underarm to the cuffs.
At the end, stitches are picked up along the neckline, and the neckband is worked.
Design is adapted to the male body shape: the Back is longer and wider than the Front, achieved by working short rows.
The pattern uses lifted increases worked from the horizontal strand between stitches (twisted). Short rows are worked using the wrap&turn method.
The neckband, bottom band, and cuffs are worked in k1p1 ribbing and finished with a tubular bind-off.
The main file and the accompanying materials (PDF files for each size and video tutorials) provide full instructions for knitting a seamless top-down jumper with Saddle Shoulders and a crewneck. You will also find recommendations on fit and silhouette shaping, as well as several options for bottom edges, cuffs, and crewneck bands.
The pattern is of intermediate difficulty. The necessary skills for knitting this design are:
– reading knitting charts (all charts are accompanied by a written description;
the video demonstrates Back neckline Deepening based on the chart),
– working stockinette stitch evenly, maintaining consistent gauge regardless of knitting direction or method,
– increasing and decreasing stitches with different leanings,
– working “wrap & turn” short rows,
– working a tubular bind-off.
All necessary techniques are described in detail in each size file and demonstrated in the videos.
Gauge: 24 sts x 32 rows/rounds = 10 x 10 cm [4”x 4”] in stockinette stitch after wet blocking.
The pattern also accommodates two adjacent gauges: 25 sts x 34 rows/rounds and 23 sts x 30 rows/rounds per 10 x 10 cm [4”x4″].
This garment does not provide much ease of fit, the recommended positive ease for it is 5 to 15%. The pattern is presented in five sizes; it can be used for knitting on a male figure with a chest circumference of 80 to 122 cm [32″…49″]. See the size range, technical data of the jumper, and the algorithm of work with the pattern in the gallery.
